Social web is dead, or not

Early Days - Flickr

In the early 2000s, digital cameras were first starting to become practical. Flickr - emerged in that time as (in retro) one of the first social-web sites. In that time, you posted your experiments in photography, and you might learn quite a lot from the response. The social-web aspect was an unexpected accident, and hugely inspiring. Lots of weird creative thought passed through Flickr.

Later Corruption - Facebook

In the early days, Facebook wanted to pull in any meaningful content, so disallowed external links. This is the point where I knew Zuckerberg was rotten. Nothing since has changed, aside from the money he has gathered. Facebook sucked users and content off Flickr, and killed that space. Facebook sought only profit, and allowed corruption of the user space.

M.Zuckerberg is a short-term-profit seeking idiot.

The social-web is a common-good, but not one we yet know how to manage. There is huge potentenial gain in the social-web. We need to figure out the next bit.

Where we go from here

We cannot trust Facebook. We cannot trust ... a good slice of the folk presented on YouTube.
